Ferrari ready for the Hungaroring
Two weeks after the disappointment weekend at Silverstone, along with tensions between the two Ferrari drivers, the team from Maranello is now ready to compete in the Hungarian Grand Prix, scheduled for this weekend at the historic Hungaroring circuit. Having been continuously present in the championship since 1986, not even excluded during the Covid-19 pandemic, the track is known for its high temperatures (both air and asphalt) and its layout, with many drivers even comparing it to a karting circuit.
Feedback from updates
Scuderia Ferrari’s goal remains the same: to return to the podium. This objective was not achieved in Silverstone, partly due to the surprising performance of McLaren, but it still remains in the plans of the Maranello team, especially after the signs of improvement noticed in Canada, Austria (with Charles Leclerc’s 2nd place), and in England. The overall performances have been more convincing, also thanks to the recent updates made to the SF-23.
Seeking confirmation
The development process of Ferrari could bring further progress in Hungary, as stated by Team Principal Frédéric Vasseur: “We arrive in Budapest determined to continue the growth path that we started in the last races with the introduction of technical updates to the SF-23. Things didn’t go as we hoped in Silverstone, but in Canada and Austria, we took clear steps forward, and in Hungary, we believe there are conditions to provide Charles and Carlos with a performing car. Both drivers love the Hungaroring track and have prepared for the race down to the smallest details, especially qualifying, which always plays a fundamental role here.” – the French manager pointed out.
Fred Vasseur’s expectations
Regarding the battle for pole position, Frederic Vasseur also commented on what will happen this weekend, with the introduction of a new qualifying format: in each knockout phase, drivers will have to take to the track with three different tire compounds. In Q1, all twenty cars will be required to set their best time using the hard tire, then switch to the medium in Q2 and the soft in Q3. “This weekend, for the first time, all teams have to deal with a different qualifying format, which includes a mandatory single compound to be used in each of the three phases. This novelty adds another variable to carefully watch, considering how close the values are among most teams. We expect to fight closely with the front-runners on Saturday and Sunday.” – the Ferrari boss concluded, ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix.
