Ferrari’s technical director, Enrico Cardile, has revealed that the engineers of the Maranello-based team have examined photos of the Red Bull.
The Red Team failed to meet expectations in the 2023 Formula 1 season. After a 2022 full of mistakes and marked by deep regret for too many missed opportunities, the progress fans were hoping for was not evident.
The team, in fact, dropped from second to third place in the constructor’s standings, winning only one race (with Sainz in Singapore) compared to three the previous year and securing five fewer pole positions (seven versus twelve).
During the year, however, some progress was visible. Let’s be clear, nowhere near enough to beat Red Bull, but there are some encouraging signs for 2024.
Enrico Cardile, Ferrari’s technical director, explained the development of the SF-23 in a recent interview with AMuS, also making a confession. The Italian admitted that Scuderia Ferrari’s engineers have examined photos of the RB19, statistically the most dominant car in Formula One history.
Enrico Cardile’s comments:
“We are at the top, not far from Red Bull. That’s why we need fresh tires, complete trust between the drivers, and ideal conditions.” – he pointed out in the recent interview – “In the race, we never manage to stabilize these factors for an entire stint. We believe that Red Bull is much better at handling changing conditions,” he said.

He then confirmed that, like all Red Bull competitors, Ferrari has carefully analyzed photos of the RB19: “It is part of our job to analyze the competition’s cars. So we have more than one photo. Even if the cars are different, it was interesting to see the bottom of the Red Bull. Their approach is different from that of the competition.” – Ferrari’s technical director continued. – “However, you have to look at this photo in the right way. Copying one-to-one never works, but you can understand what they are trying to do and draw inspiration from it,” Enrico Cardile concluded.
Will Scuderia Ferrari be able to leverage these analyses for the 2024 Formula One season and develop a car capable of competing with Red Bull for the Championship? Only the track can give us the final verdict.
