The post-Adrian Newey era seems assured
“We’ve got a top guy, and if you can convince one, maybe then you can convince others.” This is how Frederic Vasseur, the team principal of Ferrari, last summer hinted at having poached Loic Serra from Mercedes, the performance chief with a particular specialization in tires and suspensions. Loic Serra is a close friend of Pierre Waché, the technical director at Red Bull, and it’s no secret that the Frenchman is a target for both Ferrari and Mercedes.
However, Pierre Waché’s position within Red Bull appears more solid than ever. As reported by the German outlet F1-insider.com, the technical director has recently renewed and extended his contract with the Milton Keynes team. A move that seems to have shifted the balances within Red Bull in terms of hierarchy in the technical organization chart. For Christian Horner, Pierre Waché is the untouchable figure, not Adrian Newey, although the team principal is convinced that the aerodynamics wizard will also not leave the team.
Pierre Waché himself has already stated that he has a clear next goal: to prove that in 2022, Red Bull did not just get lucky with the aerodynamic concept setup. How? By creating the reference car also in 2026 when everything in Formula 1 will change, from the power units to the aerodynamics of the cars.
