What a start to a winter programme this has been for Scuderia Ferrari in terms of mileage, as Sebastian Vettel is going to be a very tired but happy driver this evening. A single Spanish Grand Prix distance is 66 laps and the German driver has completed the equivalent of two-and-a-half race distances – with his lap count at a mammoth 169 in the first day of the Formula One official testing session, which took place today at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona. Impressive durability and stamina from both driver and car.
Sebastian Vettel ends the day fastest with a 1:18.161 and it has to be said that this has been a very, very encouraging first day for Scuderia Ferrari, with lots and lots of laps as well as an encouraging lap time with which to set the pace.
It has certainly been a fast start to F1 2019 pre-season testing. Everyone bar the two Renault drivers has lapped quicker than the fastest time of day one in 2018.
On Tuesday Charles Leclerc will drive the SF90 car on the Spanish circuit in order to continue Ferrari’s scheduled programme for the first part of the testing session, while Sebastian Vettel will return behind the wheel on Wednesday.
