After the recent urging from Stefano Domenicali, the start date for the modernization works at the Monza racetrack has been set.
Monday, January 8th, is the designated date that should (barring further delays) kick off the modernization works at the Monza racetrack. Following the recent appeals from Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali, who did not react positively to the delay compared to the initially planned date, a press conference titled “Salvini Launches the Monza Works” has been organized, with the participation of several prominent figures.
Monza, the modernization works begin on January 8th
“We are, on one hand, an extraordinary country, but unfortunately, when it comes to infrastructure, many limitations come to light that must be overcome to host Grand Prix events in the future,” declared the Formula 1 CEO a few weeks ago as a guest on the show “La Politica nel Pallone.”
“ACI is aware, we often talk about it with Sticchi Damiani, but it’s December. The works in Monza were supposed to start immediately after the Grand Prix; now they should start, hopefully, shortly. My push is a constructive push. Internal bureaucracies cannot stop certain projects.”
To hope for renewal beyond 2025, the racetrack will require a significant amount of interventions, including resurfacing the asphalt, building and widening underpasses to improve traffic, constructing new grandstands, and an additional floor above the box area to be dedicated to the VIP Paddock Club.

In addition, there is also “the demolition and reconstruction of the concrete curbs currently present along the curves of the entire track and the reconstruction of the related drainage; the laying of flexible flooring with special layers capable of ensuring specific performance parameters in terms of resistance.”

A total of 21 million euros has been allocated, and all of this must be done in about six months to be ready for the 2024 Monza GP edition, which will take place on the weekend between August 30th and September 1st.
“I hope we are asked for acceleration awards, so as to compress the timing by a month,” said ACI President Angelo Sticchi Damiani, as reported by Il Giorno. The goal is to finish the works by mid-May, allowing the new asphalt to set and be ready for the FIA inspection scheduled for July.
These are the figures who will take part in the press conference on January 8th:
– Matteo Salvini – Vice President of the Council and Minister of Infrastructure and Transport
– Angelo Sticchi Damiani – President of the Automobile Club of Italy
– Attilio Fontana – President of Lombardy Region
– Stefano Domenicali – CEO Formula 1
– Giuseppe Sala – Mayor of Milan
– Paolo Pilotto – Mayor of Monza
