Formula 1 wraps up the sixth race of the 2023 season in Monaco, after a hectic weekend culminating in a rain-affected race. Here’s how the drivers’ standings (and the constructors’ standings) change after the Monte Carlo Grand Prix.
The Principality of Monaco serves as the stage for the sixth round of the Formula 1 World Championship 2023. The spotlight dims on the most glamorous weekend of the season as teams pack their bags for the immediate Barcelona Grand Prix.
Sunday in Monte Carlo brings a huge smile to Max Verstappen’s face, as he reaffirms his leadership in the championship. Starting from pole position, the Red Bull driver’s race is nearly flawless: despite some risks, he showed great speed in every condition, with every tire compound. The victory propels him even further ahead in the standings, a remarkable jump considering his teammate Sergio Perez’s misstep, being eliminated in Q1 and finishing seventeenth in the Sunday race.
The Mexican driver is now closely pursued in the championship standings by Fernando Alonso. The 41-year-old from Oviedo, who came close to pole position on Saturday, finished in P2, securing his best result of the 2023 Formula One season. The 18 points earned allow him to trail closely behind the Red Bull #11 in the championship.

In the positions just below, Lewis Hamilton and George Russell have also improved: the latter, with a P5 finish in Monaco, surpasses Carlos Sainz’s Ferrari to claim fifth place in the world championship. Mercedes’ positive double result enables the Brixworth-Brackley team to almost catch up with Aston Martin in second place in the constructors’ standings.
