The Ferrari SF-24 has revealed numerous technical innovations, including an interesting element positioned near the Halo and the confirmed Bypass Duct.
In Maranello, there is confidence in the new project. Enrico Cardile has indeed confirmed that the SF-24 has surpassed the limits of the previous single-seater. Even the drivers seem to have better sensations compared to last year. From a technical standpoint, the Ferrari SF-24 has not shown revolutionary novelties, but one detail has captured a lot of attention. Next to the Halo and above the confirmed Bypass Duct, a new “duct” for air has appeared.
Evolution of the SF-23
Ferrari had already introduced the bypass duct on the SF-23 last year, generating curiosity among many. This channel draws in air from the sidepod inlets and directs it onto the engine cover. This generates a blowing effect that energizes the incoming airflow on the engine cover.
The Ferrari technicians have decided to reintroduce this particular detail on the SF-24. Now, however, we also find a “deflector” installed above the outlet of the channel. This component connects to the base of the Halo. It probably serves to “clean” the airflow and direct it in a specific way towards the rear of the car.
The idea is probably to make this new element work in synergy with the bypass duct, accelerating the exiting air. In this way, they aim to feed the airflow on the engine cover, delaying its separation and thus improving aerodynamic efficiency.

Another hypothesis is that the “blown” flow interacts with the hot gases coming out of the sidepods. These gases are not organized, so it is plausible that Ferrari is attempting to “clean” them with the incoming air from the bypass duct.
It remains evident, however, that Ferrari has maintained its own identity. In Maranello, they have not just copied Red Bull’s concepts but have interpreted them in their own way. The initial impressions seem positive, but the true potential of the SF-24 will only be seen in the Bahrain pre-season testing session, which takes place next week at the Sakhir circuit.
