According to recent rumors, even Haas, led by the team of Simone Resta, has decided to abandon the unsuccessful Ferrari concept of the scooped sidepods in 2024, aligning itself with the Red Bull philosophy. The VF23 will not go down in history as one of the most competitive cars produced by the American team, currently even trailing behind Williams in the constructors’ standings, following in the footsteps of Ferrari’s challenging year.

The rumor about the change in philosophy that the American team will adopt next year comes from the German colleagues at Auto Motor und Sport, who believe that embracing the philosophy of the reigning champion team will bring greater benefits than continuing with the current concept.
Although it was clear that the philosophy of last year’s RB18 could offer significantly better results on the track and in development, Ferrari’s engineers wanted to maintain the basic philosophy of the F1-75 in 2023, bringing an evolution of the previous car to Bahrain.
However, the men from Maranello soon realized that persisting with this project would not narrow the gap with Red Bull, deciding to change course regarding the design of the 2024 car and starting from a blank sheet.
Now, it seems that Haas will face a similar fate. Nevertheless, the team led on the technical front by Simone Resta will have limited maneuvering space. The VF-24 will not deviate much from the architecture that the Maranello team will adopt next year.
Gunther Steiner himself cited McLaren’s example from this year to demonstrate the feasibility of achieving rapid improvements in a very short period.
“McLaren has shown that you can make a big leap with a change of concept. It doesn’t make sense to keep adding new parts to the existing car and remain stagnant.”
According to AMuS, Haas will design a chassis with highly sculpted components in the lower part, Red Bull-style. This should allow for greater aerodynamic freedom in the airflow above and below the baseplate. Both Ferrari and Haas will, therefore, use the remaining races on the calendar as a testing ground for the upcoming year.
