This weekend, Imola will welcome Ferrari back after two years. The last Grand Prix held at the Santerno circuit was on April 24, 2022, when Ferrari arrived at their home circuit with two wins in the first three races. Currently, the anticipation is just as intense, not so much for previous results on the track (although Ferrari has significantly improved this winter) but for the impact of the updates to be implemented on the SF-24 at Imola.
F1 President Stefano Domenicali is also eager to see the first results on the track to determine if the improvements will allow Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz to compete with Red Bull and McLaren. Stefano Domenicali, a native of Imola, also expects a lot of support for Lewis Hamilton, who will make his debut as a Ferrari driver next season.
Stefano Domenicali’s comments
“What do I expect from Ferrari fans? From the team, a development package that makes the competition even tighter; from the public, a special welcome for Lewis Hamilton. After the announcement of his agreement with Scuderia Ferrari, this is his first time on Ferrari territory, but the echo is stronger abroad than in Italy,” he said before the Imola GP.
“They have also announced new arrivals (Loïc Serra and Jérôme D’Ambrosio) and there are rumors about possible collaborations that I cannot comment on because I don’t know,” he added. This obviously refers to Adrian Newey, with Ferrari being the frontrunner for his next F1 destination. Newey might not be the only significant market move in a future that could bring surprises to the starting grid: “I expect a domino effect towards Silverstone and a defined 2025 grid by Monza,” concluded the F1 president.
