Another Charles Leclerc masterclass
At the end of a brilliant race, Charles Leclerc secures victory in the United States Grand Prix at the Austin circuit, his third of the 2024 Formula One season. It was an impressive show of strength from the Monegasque driver, who made a spectacular start, immediately overtaking the two title contenders and outsmarting them both at turn 1.
Then came an outstanding race management, with a relentless race pace, leaving the competition behind. Carlos Sainz completed the one-two, also having a great race despite engine problems in the first stint.
“We are very happy,” commented Charles Leclerc in the usual post-race interviews. “It wasn’t an easy weekend. We struggled a bit to find the feeling with the car, but I was confident that I would feel better in the race, and that’s exactly what happened.” – he pointed out following his splendid race victory at the 5.513-kilometre Circuit of The Americas in Austin.
“After the sprint race, we weren’t — I wouldn’t say scared — but I thought the others would improve a lot. However, we still stayed ahead today. I couldn’t have dreamed of anything better.”
Speaking about his lightning-fast start: “It was a great turn 1. Exactly what I wanted to do happened. I got off to a great start. I knew we would all be very close. Yesterday (in the sprint), I found myself as the victim, being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Today, I took advantage of it. This clearly helped our first stint. We had an extraordinary pace, and then in the second, I focused on managing it.” – the Monegasque driver added.
“We had great pace all weekend, especially in the race. I have to thank the engineers a lot because they’ve been working like crazy over the last few months, bringing updates that we already had in Singapore and the last races, and it seems they are paying off. The team is really working very well. The pit stops went well. Everything worked perfectly, so I’m really happy.”
Finally, speaking about the goal for the rest of the 2024 Formula 1 season, Charles Leclerc revealed: “Now our goal is the title. The road is long, but it’s a good start to this trio of races.” – the Ferrari man concluded.
