Max Verstappen secured victory in the Bahrain Grand Prix after starting from pole position, leading the race in a controlled manner on Saturday night. The Red Bull driver maintained his lead throughout the 57 laps, finishing 22 seconds ahead of his teammate, Sergio Perez, who recovered from a subdued qualifying to secure a Red Bull one-two.
Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz claimed the final spot on the podium after an exciting battle with teammate Charles Leclerc. Despite Charls Leclerc’s struggles with tire degradation and several lock-ups, he managed to finish fourth after overtaking the leading Mercedes of George Russell in the latter part of the race. Verstappen’s flawless performance marked a perfect start to his latest title defense.
Carlos Sainz speaking after finishing third in the Bahrain Grand Prix, behind the two Red Bull cars:
“I felt really good out there today, the start wasn’t great, from then on I just managed my tires well and then I could do my race. I overtook two or three cars on the way to the podium and keeping up with the Red Bull there was a pleasant surprise. It’s still not enough and where we want to be. Good start forward and solid start to the season. With a hard we feel more comfortable because it overheats less, it’s a trickier tyre with warm up and front locking. Once you get it working in our car you can push.” – the Spanish driver said at the end of the Bahrain Grand Prix.
