When it comes to Ferrari, controversies are a daily occurrence, as Carlos Sainz knows all too well. The Spanish driver, in his third season with the Maranello team, has often had to defend himself against harsh external attacks. And this year, neither the Italian side nor the drivers are spared by the fans and the media following the disappointing results in the first part of the season.
In a lengthy interview with Roberto Chinchero for Motorsport, Carlos Sainz highlighted how Ferrari is always the subject of controversy and criticism. After all, “it’s Ferrari,” commented the driver. “It’s something they tried to explain to me a thousand times before I joined this team. And I always replied, ‘don’t worry, I’ll get used to it.'”
However, Carlos Sainz continued by stating that to truly understand the team, one must be “inside” it. “Every weekend, there’s a story, and if you don’t win, there’s always some controversy that takes shape. But I must also say that when you win, well, it’s the best place in the world.”
Unfortunately, controversies also affect the drivers. This year, Ferrari didn’t have a great start. In fact, it was a debut below expectations. However, Carlos Sainz shrugs it off and implies that he’s accustomed to it, thanks to his Formula 1 experience now that he’s nearly 29 years old:

“I know how to handle these aspects, and in the end, I think it’s right this way because it’s all connected to the passion that exists in Italy and the world for this team. This attachment to Ferrari also generates the urgency to win, and that’s why when you do win, it’s so special. Because you know that there are really so many happy people who share the joy of a victory with you. Yes, it’s all part of living at Ferrari,” Carlos Sainz concluded.
