Carlos Sainz evaluates his season
On one hand, Scuderia Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz can be satisfied with being the only non-Red Bull driver capable of winning a Grand Prix in 2023. On the other hand, the Spanish driver undoubtedly had a 2023 Formula One season with ups and downs, which resulted in him finishing in seventh place in the driver’s standings.
The Madrid-born driver had to end the championship with the worst final placement since joining Scuderia Ferrari and hopes that during this winter break, Maranello can produce a more competitive car. He also aims to renew his contract, which expires at the end of the upcoming Formula 1 campaign.
“It has been a tough year, with a car that performed better on Saturdays than on Sundays,” he recounted at an event sponsored by the Estrella Galicia sponsor, adding, “In the races, we were falling behind and leaving the circuit frustrated, but we returned optimistic from Monday, determined to find solutions to be stronger.” – the Spaniard continued.
Expectations for the 2024 F1 season
Carlos Sainz then remarked: “We still have several meetings to face; for example, in January, we will have a meeting, and we will understand even better. Red Bull has interpreted the new regulations very well, and if we can beat them or match them on Saturdays, on Sundays, they give us half a second per lap. The key will be to find competitiveness for Sundays.” – the Ferrari man pointed out.

Regarding his personal minimum goals, Carlos Sainz explained: “I don’t demand anything from Ferrari because the team has wanted to win since 2008. We all have this goal, and I can only ask to change what doesn’t work with the car. I won one race in 2022, one in 2023, and let’s see if I can win at least two for 2024; that’s my target.” In a final remark reported by Marca, he commented on Max Verstappen: “I think he didn’t need to go 100%; he only did it when he needed to, and that’s what scares me the most.” – the Spanish driver concluded.
