Carlos Sainz spoke about the collision he had at the start with Charles Leclerc in the Spanish Grand Prix last weekend. After the Barcelona race, the two Ferrari drivers were seen having an heated discussion about what had happened, and then tensions flared during the interviews.
Almost one week after the incident and the disappointment of that fifth and sixth place, Scuderia Ferrari looks to Austria for redemption. The same goes for the two drivers.
In the interviews on the Thursday dedicated to the media, Carlos Sainz responded to a question in Italian from Mara Sangiorgio, who asked if it would now be difficult for Fred Vasseur to manage them both.
“It hasn’t been a concern in four years, and it won’t be now,” explained the Spanish driver – “There have always been scenarios after four years together, 22 races a year, we share the same track space every weekend because we’ve always started side by side.” – he pointed out.
Having two strong and competitive drivers is “good news” for Carlos Sainz, as well as “for the team because it means that both drivers are there, unlike other teams that maybe don’t have the same competitiveness between their two drivers.”
The high level of performance inevitably leads to clashes on the track. “That leads you to have situations like Barcelona where we didn’t agree on certain things,” continued Ferrari’s #55.

So is everything ok between him and Charles Leclerc? “We have always been two drivers who resolved these problems well, talking to each other, on the phone, and on the track. It will always be like this,” concluded Carlos Sainz, thus putting an end to the matter.
The Spaniard’s statements echo the comments spoken by his Maranello teammate in the press conference. The Monegasque indeed stated that the episode in Barcelona in no way affected their relationship, and that they got caught up “in the moment” of tension just after getting out of the car.
