One of the highly discussed topics for the new year is the renewal of the Scuderia Ferrari drivers. The contracts of both Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc will expire in 2024, but for months there has been talk of continuing together beyond 2024, although official announcements are still pending.
Several reports in the Italian and International media suggest that there is an agreement on the table for Charles Leclerc until 2029, while the situation is more delicate for Carlos Sainz. The Spaniard is aware that he is not at the center of the Maranello project and that his time will be limited until 2026. Furthermore, there are already young talents in the background who are eager to move up, and the team is focusing on them for the future.
In a recent interview with Spanish newspaper Marca, the number 55 wanted to express some grievances, believing that part of the fans have “double standards” they apply between him and Charles Leclerc, with clear favoritism for the latter. “There have been talks for the renewal; I want to start 2024 knowing where I will race in 2025, my next destination, and my priority is to renew and continue for many more years. Both parties are happy. We have three months to reach that agreement before the first race; they talk about what they offer me, but it’s just speculation. I don’t make speculations; I want to renew for more than a year. That’s my intention, and I feel very valued by Fred and Ferrari.” – the Spanish driver pointed out in his recent interview for Marca.
“I feel loved, and I will renew if I still feel that way. The team has known what I’m capable of for three years, my qualities. Maybe Monza was more of a message to the fans: it was exciting and fun to be ahead with Ferrari in the home Grand Prix against Red Bull; there was more connection. My status in the team hasn’t changed, but I hope it has changes in the view of the fans,” – Scuderia Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz admitted.
