Ten years after the dramatic skiing accident in Meribel, a short unreleased clip from the documentary “Being Michael Schumacher” shows the Kaiser approaching a microphone against a blurred background.
At 23:35, all fans of the Ferrari legend and ten years after the dramatic event that forever changed the life of the former Ferrari champion outside Germany will be able to watch the first of the five parts of the documentary “Being Michael Schumacher,” produced by ARD and directed by Andreas Troll, airing between December 28 and 29.
The documentary, already available in Germany since December 14, recounts the splendid career of the former German driver, from his early days in karting to becoming the Formula 1 legend we all know, also through the accounts of some illustrious guests, including Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton, and Jean Todt. In the first few seconds of the first episode, however, a short unreleased footage of Schumi emerged, leaving everyone astonished.
Schumacher: The unreleased footage in the new documentary
In the first episode, titled “Gravel Pit,” you can glimpse the Kaiser slowly approaching the microphone against a blurred background, then exclaiming the following words: “It begins.” It is a brief footage never released before, and those few seconds were enough to fuel the imagination of viewers, who immediately associated the clip with recent footage of Michael’s condition.
In addition to this, Schumacher also appears at the end of the fourth episode, exclaiming this time, “It’s all.” In reality, as explained by Andreas Troll himself, the footage in question, although never published before, is not dated to the period after the Meribel accident.
“With the documentary, we paint a comprehensive picture of the person and athlete Michael Schumacher. For this, we used recordings from the many years in which we told his story and accompanied him. The two videos date back to 2012, so they are not current.”

“At the time, I had already made a documentary about Schumacher, for which we also visited him in Switzerland. In the context of a very close collaboration, he was accessible to these productions.”
Since its first release in Germany, according to BILD, the documentary has already garnered over two million views, becoming ARD’s most successful production throughout 2023.
