Adrian Newey’s adventure at Red Bull has come to an end. The split between the British engineer and the Austrian team after a fruitful marriage of almost twenty years now appears certain. The English engineer, currently still the technical director of the Milton Keynes team, is now ready for a new experience. And Ferrari is in pole position.
Having turned down the offer from nearby Aston Martin, the 65-year-old from Colchester is reportedly ready to join Frederic Vasseur‘s court. The principal of the Prancing Horse team is preparing a stellar menu with prestigious offerings: alongside Lewis Hamilton in 2025, Adrian Newey could indeed be joining.
The BBC reports further details on the Englishman’s future. Adrian Newey is reportedly negotiating an early exit from Red Bull that would allow him to sign with another team as early as 2025.
Ferrari on Newey: working to minimize gardening
The issue regarding gardening is highly debated. For a technician of Adrian Newey’s caliber, such a transition period would likely be rather lengthy, but efforts are being made for a significant reduction.
According to the BBC, “Adrian Newey’s lawyers are working to obtain an early exit. This way, he will have the opportunity to start working for his new team as early as next year.” The information has reportedly been confirmed to the British by sources close to Red Bull and Newey himself.
If this agreement were to materialize, Adrian Newey could bypass the long gardening period (which would effectively keep him idle until 2027) in order to begin his activities with the next team, already in view of the cars of the new 2026 Formula 1 regulations.
According to F1 Correspondent Andrew Benson confirmed that “Adrian Newey’s next team is not yet decided but Ferrari are hot favourites to sign him”
Newey leaves Red Bull: when will the official announcement be?
Rumors from Germany spoke of an imminent farewell announcement between Newey and Red Bull on Tuesday, April 30. However, different information is filtering from England. According to the BBC, no official statement will be issued before Thursday, May 2. One reason for this choice is also out of respect for the mourning days that, thirty years ago, took Ayrton Senna away. At the time of his passing, the Brazilian ace was indeed with Williams, alongside Adrian Newey.
