Antonio Giovinazzi says he wants to learn from his experienced teammate in 2019.The Italian, with only two grands prix under his belt, is making his full Formula 1 debut this year for Alfa Romeo Racing and admits he will likely follow the lead set by Alfa Romeo teammate Kimi Raikkonen this year: “With Kimi next door, for me he can be a teacher and I have a lot to learn,” said Giovinazzi, a 25-year-old Ferrari junior.
39-year-old Kimi Raikkonen has won 21 grands prix, and the world championship for Scuderia Ferrari in 2007: “He has more experience than me, he is a reference and his results will be connected to mine,” Giovinazzi is quoted by Sky Italia – “I think I have a great teammate, very strong, and he can be a good teacher and a point of reference. I think it will be just a mistake to do it a different way from him,” the former GP2 runner-up told Motorsport.com about his approach. – “Now my target is to work from him, just learn from him [and it’s] the right thing as well to go in the same way and drive in Kimi’s way, [to] make it a lot easier also for the team. Finally I can work for me, for my car, and this is what I’m doing. I’m trying to take all the feedback, give to the team and try to work a lot with the team and with Kimi as well to build a good car. I followed Kimi’s day [on Monday], we can do a really good job together.” – he added.
Alfa Romeo, formerly called Sauber, has had a strong start to the 2019 winter test: “In the end last year they were in the top ten, and now we hope to start from there,” Antonio Giovinazzi concluded.
