The qualifying session for the British Grand Prix has given us unexpected twists. Rain has been affecting the last few F1 weekends, and Silverstone was no exception. The drops that fell in the hours before the Q1, Q2, and Q3 sessions made for a rather damp track, which complicated the work of the drivers. This is evident from Sergio Perez’s surprising elimination, qualifying in 16th place with Red Bull (it has been five consecutive races that Checo hasn’t made it to Q3).
The track gradually dried up, also helping Ferrari find its rhythm in Q3. Despite everything, it was Max Verstappen who came out on top once again. The opposite would have surprised us. During the first session, the Dutch two-time world champion was involved in a controversial incident, overtaking George Russell under yellow flag conditions. ‘Sky Sport’ later clarified the situation: Verstappen’s pass on the Mercedes driver would not be penalized as the yellow flag was not displayed in the section where Max made the move.
Valtteri Bottas disqualified
The race stewards were unable to extract one liter of fuel from Valtteri Bottas’ car at the end of the British GP qualifying session. Therefore, they had to disqualify the car from the order that emerged yesterday afternoon at the end of Q1, Q2, and Q3. The Finn will start from the back of the grid on Sunday.
