The cost of merely entering Formula One has changed in recent years. Instead of a flat fee, teams now have to pay a fee based on points scored in the previous season. Scuderia Ferrari will pay approximately 2.5 million dollars, nearly the same as the amount of money paid for the 2016 Formula 1 season. Below is a list of how much money teams have to pay to enter a Formula One season.
The champion team now pays a hefty $6,194 per point scored, meaning that Mercedes’ bill for simply entering Formula One is nearly $5.2 million. Runner-up Red Bull Racing is billed $2.9 million for 2017, while Scuderia Ferrari will have to pay 2.5 milion dollars for the 2017 Formula 1 season.
As shown, Manor are on the list but will not have to pay as the team folded earlier last week. This means that Manor will most definitely not be present in Melbourne for the Australian Grand Prix or beyond and as a result the governing body will ultimately lose their extra 0.5 million in fees for the 2017 Formula 1 season.
