Just a few days until the 2020 Formula One season begins, with the first round of the championship being traditionally held at the Albert Park circuit in Melboure. Hopes were high that Scuderia Ferrari and Red Bull could pose a challenge to Mercedes in 2020 for a much more thrilling and close battle than last year. But for the moment, after what could be seen in winter testing, the impression is that Mercedes remains at the front, while the Maranello team is struggling.
“The (Ferrari) car is obviously not good.” – Former Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone said, as reported by Blick newspaper – “But like millions of fans of the red cars, I hope I am surprised.” – he added.
After analyzing the data and pace from the two pre-season testing sessions at the Circuit de Catalunya, some think Scuderia Ferrari’s 2020 car is still strong on the so-called ‘long runs’, yet it will not be able to challenge Mercedes in qualifying: “Ferrari is obliged of course to be in the top three,” Dutch GP boss Jan Lammers told NOS, “but they did not show that in Barcelona. But I think we can assume that they will be there in Australia.” – he concluded.
