Martin Brundle believes Kimi Raikkonen will be one the surprises of the season when he’s driving for Sauber next season.
The Finn made his debut for Sauber in 2001 in the single seaters top category and has rejoined after being replaced by Charles Leclerc at Ferrari.
“I have the feeling that Kimi will take care of all kinds of surprises at Sauber,” said Brundle at Sky Sports.
Both Raikkonen and Sauber impressed in 2018 with the 2007 champion winning the US Grand Prix and finished third in the World Championship whilst Sauber were eighth in the Constructors class.
“The Sauber will be an excellent car next year and Kimi simply drives for fun,” said Brundle.
“He has delivered some of his best performances since it was known that he would not drive for Ferrari in 2019, If the pressure is off and you have nothing left to lose, it can be better.
“Kimi’s pole position at Monza was impressive, although he obviously had a slipstream from his teammate. He also booked a good win in Austin.”
Despite the positive comments the Sky Sports analyst did downplay his chances saying: “Not that he becomes champion, his team does not have the means, but I do not rule him out for some surprising results in 2019.”
