Former Scuderia Ferrari driver, Fernando Alonso, recently said that it is “good” to see the Maranello team again victorious in a Formula 1 race, after Sebastian Vettel ended its 18-month period without a win in the start of the 2017 F1 season, as the German driver finished ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas in Australia, at the Albert Park circuit. Sebastian Vettel thus managed Ferrari’s first win in a season-opening Grand Prix since Fernando Alonso won on his debut for the Scuderia back in Bahrain in 2010.
Fernando Alonso raced for Scuderia Ferrari between 2010 and 2014, five seasons during which the Spanish driver scored 11 wins for the Italian team and came very close to wining the Formula 1 title on two occasions, in 2010 and 2012, before deciding to leave Ferrari at the of the 2014 championship and rejoin McLaren. A decision which did not seem to work out for the 35-year-old driver, because as a result of McLaren’s current problems and struggles that were materialized in a very uncompetitive car, Fernando Alonso has once again been reduced to a spectator role for the fights at the front of the field. However, former F1 world champion said he was pleased to see the Maranello team returning to winning ways: “I think last year also, they were going for victory here, but eventually they had to do an extra stop at the end and Nico [Rosberg] took a win here. We should wait a couple of more races to have a better view of things, but definitely yes, they seem much more competitive this time, which is good for them and for the sport. But as I said, last year they were ready for the win here, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise.” – Fernando Alonso said, as reported by espn.co.uk.
