Max Verstappen has ended the first practice session from the British Grand Prix weekend on top of the timesheets, setting a 1:27.422. The session took place in abnormally warm conditions for the Silverstone Circuit, which saw some drivers struggle on the soft compound tyre.
For Scuderia Ferrari the British Grand Prix weekend did not start in the best way possible, as Sebastian Vettel was ruled out of the first practice session at the Silverstone Circuit.
Sebastian was able to head out on track on a very sunny and warm Friday morning at Silverstone, but his SF1000 was soon back up on the stands in the garage without a time being set. Ferrari had discovered a problem with the intercooler system, so the car needed to be stripped down and reassessed ahead of the second practice session on Friday afternoon.
The Italian side hopes to resolve the issue in time for this afternoon’s second practice session at Silverstone. It marks the latest setback for Ferrari, which has endured a woeful start to the delayed 2020 season after taking the wrong aerodynamic direction with its latest challenger.
Charles Leclerc completed Scuderia Ferrari’s entire programme in this session with team-mate Sebastian Vettel sidelined by problems on his SF1000. The Monegasque driver finished in P5, with a personal best of 1.28.221, eight tents behind Max Verstappen best time from the first practice session.
